“What is the mission of the Hope?

Hope's Mission is to empower children and adults facing special challenges - whether physical, cognitive or emotional - to discover their abilities, independent skills and explore their potential through use of our nationally accredited safe and effective equine assisted activities and therapy.”

“Who can participate in Hope programs?

Hope’s instructors are certified through CHA (Certified Horsemanship Association) to work with and provide lessons for many different special needs participants, but is available to anyone five and up, who can safely participate in the program.”

“How is Hope beneficial?

Research supports the many benefits of equine therapy. Students build pride, courage and independence; increase physical strength and flexibility; develop greater focus, concentration, engagement and commitment abilities; advance social and relationship skills; and improve verbal and non-verbal communication capabilities.”

“Is it safe?
Hope instructors, volunteers, and horses are trained to provide a safe, fun, and supportive experience. Our CHA certified instructors go through rigorous and ongoing safety training to provide enjoyable and creative ways to teach horsemanship skills. Our volunteers participate in classroom and hands-on training focused on the welfare of students and horses prior to assisting and working at Hope. Our Hope Herd is experienced and trained to accommodate many different kinds of riders.”

“Where and when does hope provide lessons?

Hope is located at the Island County Fairgrounds. We generally provide lessons, one day a week, from spring through fall. Students signup for a series of six-week lessons so that they are able to progress and develop their abilities. We also provide additional opportunities with camps and other special classes and events. Check our online Facebook and Instagram sites for current Hope opportunities.”

“How much does it cost?

Lesson are approximately $60 each or $360 for a six-week session. We also have scholarships available based on financial need.”

“Can I volunteer?

Hope welcomes those who wish to help before and during lessons, helping with fundraisers, providing administrative and office assistance, and just keeping things clean and tidy in our tack room and meeting room.”

“How can I donate?

Yes, we welcome your donations to help cover the many costs of sustaining our program. You may donate via Venmo, paypal, or check made out to Hope. Hope is a 501c3 non-profit program making your donation tax deductible.”
